Google Ads audit checklist: 20 things we check

A practical checklist for auditing a Google Ads account — tracking, structure, search terms, ads, landing.

A quick audit finds where budget leaks. Here is a starting list we use.

Tracking and measurement

  1. Are conversions set correctly (not “all clicks”)?
  2. GA4 + GTM alignment
  3. Duplicate conversions / wrong attribution model
  4. Call tracking if phone is the primary channel

Account structure

  1. Brand separated from non-brand
  2. Overly broad campaigns mixing intents
  3. Budget on the wrong campaigns
  4. Geography and language realistic for the market

Keywords and queries

  1. Search terms — irrelevant queries
  2. Negative keyword lists
  3. Match type discipline
  4. Competitor vs generic searches

Ads and assets

  1. RSA relevance and pinning
  2. Extensions (sitelink, callout, call)
  3. Message match with the landing page

Landing and CRO

  1. Mobile landing speed
  2. Clear CTA and form
  3. Message match (ad ↔ page)

Process

  1. Is there a weekly change rhythm with a log?
  2. Do you only scale what holds CPA?
